As of April 1st 2025, Makivvik will be accepting applications for language and culture funding through the Indigenous Languages Component (ILC) program.

Historically, the ILC has been administered by the Department of Canadian Heritage. However, as of 2023, the funding now flows directly through the four Inuit Land Claim Organizations for implementation.

Through this new governance structure, Makivvik is now the entity responsible for implementation of ILC projects in Nunavik.

Eligible projects for the ILC fund include:

  • Cultural development
  • Conferences/gatherings
  • Community engagement
  • Leadership development toward Inuktitut
  • Life skills and wellness that incorporate the learning of Inuktitut
  • Education and training
  • Production and broadcast of radio, television, and programming
  • Innovation and new technologies
  • Consultation and coordination
  • Research, studies, and community assessment
  • Management and administration

If you are an organization looking for funding to support the reclamation, revitalization, and/or maintenance of Inuktitut, we welcome you to apply to Makivvik for funding consideration.

The application form, and Guiding Criteria package can be found on this page. Once completed, submissions can be sent to ILC@makivvik.ca.

Please note: calls for projects will be issued throughout the calendar year, on a cycle basis, with the first review of applications taking place in late May 2025.

Therefore, the deadline for submissions for the first review of projects is May 9th 2025.
