“What I find positive about elections is that the voters always turn up the volume and speak their minds on what really concerns them. In this campaign people spoke about the need to do more to cut poverty, the need to exercise more control over our lands and that has encouraged me even more. I take the mandate Nunavimmiut have given me seriously”
The Makivvik thanks its Chief Returning Officer Jeannie May and her many officers in the communities for the Universal Elections that ran smooth and efficient.
For the first time in Makivvik elections, results were published on the Makivvik Website and Facebook Page as they were coming into the head office allowing Nunavimmiut to be a part of the excitement.
It’s also interesting to note the elections results were counted and published within a 2 hour period. The polls were closed at 6PM and by 8PM all of the community results had been counted and received at Makivvik’s head office.
Congratulations to our election crew.
