Kuujjuaq, Nunavik – February 7, 2025 – Makivvik is pleased to announce the results of the 2025 Universal Election, which saw the re-election of Vice President of Economic Development Andy Moorhouse and Secretary Alicia Aragutak.
For the position of Vice President, Economic Development, Andy Moorhouse secured re-election with 1,340 votes (68.05%), while Eyetsiak Papigatuk received 593 votes (30.12%). A total of 36 (1.83%) ballots were spoiled.
For the position of Secretary, Alicia Aragutak was re-elected with 1,212 votes (61.55%), while Jonathan Epoo received 717 votes (36.41%). A total of 40 (2.03%) ballots were spoiled.
This year, 1,969 people out of the 10,141 eligible voters participated in the election, representing a 19.42% voter turnout. Of those who voted, 31.08% cast their ballots online.
Makivvik extends its sincere appreciation to Eyetsiak Papigatuk and Jonathan Epoo for their participation in this election. Their willingness to step forward and engage in leadership is valued and contributes to the strength of our region.
Reflecting on his re-election, Andy Moorhouse stated: “I am honoured to continue my role as Vice President responsible for Economic Development. My campaign focused on experienced, open, and fair leadership to build a strong economic foundation for Nunavik’s future. Our priority remains fostering sustainable economic opportunities for Nunavik Inuit, promoting community development, and ensuring our communities can grow and prosper. We will continue supporting youth with access to leadership development tools and advancing job creation and training initiatives to strengthen families and build a resilient future.”
Alicia Aragutak also shared her gratitude: “Over the past three years, we have made great strides in decentralizing Makivvik services to communities, advancing the enrolment file, bringing interpreters together for the first Uqausiit Conference, and reorganizing the Corporate Secretary office. We have also laid the groundwork for a new head office and a Hudson satellite office while fostering meaningful discussions on empowering Inuit in the workforce. It is an honour to continue this work, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to keep this momentum going. The trust placed in me is not taken lightly, and I remain committed to ensuring Makivvik continues to serve the best interests of Nunavik Inuit.”
Polls officially closed at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Makivvik thanks all those who took the time to vote and participate and hopes that more Inuit will make the decision to go out and vote in future elections. Makivvik remains dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of Nunavimmiut and the Board of Makivvik, ensuring our efforts align with the needs and aspirations of our fellow Inuit.

Makivvik is the land claims organization mandated to manage the heritage funds of the Inuit of Nunavik provided for under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement. Makivvik’s role includes the administration and investment of these funds and the promotion of economic growth by providing assistance for the creation of Inuit-operated businesses in Nunavik. Makivvik promotes the preservation of Inuit culture and language as well as the health, welfare, relief of poverty, and education of Inuit in the communities.
