Board Members
- Makivvik DEVCO
- First Air
- Air Inuit
Makivvik is seeking Board Members for its wholly-owned business development corporation (DEVCO), as well as its two airlines: Air Inuit and First Air. Created in 1978, following the signing of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA), Makivvik’s mission is to support the economic and social welfare of the Inuit beneficiaries of the JBNQA. To this end, Makivvik owns commercial subsidiaries including Air Inuit, First Air, Halutik Fuels, Nunavik Geomatics and Kautaq Construction and is a major shareholder in Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping (NEAS), collectively employing over 2,000 people in Nunavik, Nunavut, Montreal, Ottawa and other Canadian locations.
Makivvik has created DEVCO to oversee its existing wholly-owned subsidiaries which are increasingly large and complex, and to explore and develop new business and diversification opportunities. This will require the recruitment of three new, experienced boards of directors, capable of providing professional governance and direction.
Each of the three boards (DEVCO, Air Inuit and First Air) will consist of six members including a Chair selected by its respective members. A minimum of three members of each board must be beneficiaries of the JBNQA who are not employed by, or members of the Board of Directors of, Makivvik or its subsidiaries.
Candidates who wish to be considered for the opportunity to foster the growth and success of Makivvik’s new development corporation and its two airlines should be compelled by the objectives of Makivvik, and comfortable operating in a cross-cultural environment. They should be confident in selecting and providing oversight to the CEO, and possess an understanding of governance and the collaborative role of board members. All board members should possess an understanding of financial statements, business planning and operations.
Preference will be given to candidates who have had previous experience in owning, operating, or managing a business. Ideally candidates will hold a professional designation and advanced education.
If these important and exciting board mandates are of interest, send an introductory letter explaining why you should be selected as a Board member, and a resume detailing your professional experience.
