October 30, 2015 – Lynx Mobility Inc. (“Lynx”) and Nunacell Inc. (“Nunacell”) would like to inform their customers about upcoming changes with cellular telephony in Nunavik.
The agreements binding Nunacell and Lynx for the provision of cellular telephone services using CDMA technology in Kuujjuaq, Inukjuak and Puvirnituq will terminate on December 31, 2015. Lynx and Nunacell have decided not to renew their partnership after such date.
There will be interruption of service in the communities of Inukjuak and Puvirnituq for an indefinite period of time while Nunacell explores other solutions. There will be no interruption of service in Kuujjuaq.
Customers should take notice that the existing CDMA network will be replaced with newer technologies, and as such the CDMA phones in use will not be compatible with the new technology. In light of these changes, customers might want to defer the purchase of new handsets until the new technology is implemented.
More information will be made available in the coming weeks.
