Department Coordinator

Job Description:

Reports to:                                   The Assistant to the Vice-President in the Economic Development Department

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Management of the EDD in supervising the staff and programs under the authority of the Vice President of Economic Development;
  • Under the direction of the Assistant to the Vice President, coordinate Makivik’s participation, in an efficient and result-oriented manner, on different regional, national and international committees and initiatives mandated to the Vice President EDD by the Board of Directors or the Executive Committee;
  • Ensure coordination, logistics, and proper follow-up on different files, projects and initiatives under the Vice president’s department authority;
  • Provide leadership to other staff in administrative and coordination follow-up to specific files and programs such as the Nunavik Business Registry and its related policy such as the NIB Policy and the Nunavik Inuit Procurement Policy.
  • Participate with senior managers and other staff in the development and implementation of strategies and plan of actions with regards to important corporation files, more specifically in the fields of economic and socio-economic files;
  • Assisting & collaborating with the staff with-in the Dept. in the coordination of tasks as well as maintaining a tasks management initiative for the dept.
  • Leadership Coordination with other staff in maintaining the NIB Registry, including review of application forms, enter information in a database and help businesses with instructions for applying;
  • Administer the registration process for the NIB Registry;
  • Monitor and provide updates on procurement matters;
  • Represent Makivvik, as directed, at meetings with governments, Inuit and other Indigenous organizations; businesses and business organizations and other groups where procurement opportunities in the Nunavik region are being discussed;
  • Provide administrative and coordination follow-up to specific files and as well as the Landholding Corporations in ensuring support to the NLHCA;
  • Participate with leaders and other staff in the development and implementation of strategies and plan of actions with regards to important corporation files;
  • Be available to travel, as requested;
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration and/or relevant experience will be recognized;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a management and strategic role;
  • Good communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut, English and/or French;
  • Great computer skills : Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Inuit and cultural knowledge and understanding, is required;
  • Familiarity with the JBNQA and the NILCA;
  • Strong leadership, communication and planning skills required;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage large amounts of information effectively;
  • Understanding and/or able to take the leadership role on the Nunavik Inuit Business Registry Policy and Nunavik Inuit Procurement Policy objectives upon hiring and throughout mandate.
