George Berthe

George Berthe was elected to the position of Treasurer on January 16, 2020. He previously served as Makivvik Corporate Secretary from 1998 – 2010, and as Executive Assistant to the Vice-President of Renewable Resources from 1996-1998.

Mr. Berthe was born March 24, 1974 in Kuujjuaq. He obtained his formal education at Jaanimmarik School in Kuujjuaq (1992), and is a graduate of the Nunavik Sivunitsavut Program (2019).

He brings vast experience to the position of Makivvik Treasurer, having been Coordinator in the Kativik Regional Government Chairman’s Office (1993-1994); Director General of Taqramiut Nipingat Inc. (1994-1996); Vice President of Air Inuit (2010-2011); President of Suluk (2012-2014); Executive Director of the Ungava Tulattavik Health Centre (UTHC) (2015-2017); and as a Cook for Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (2017-2018).

Throughout his career Mr. Berthe has been very active in making contributions to his immediate community – Kuujjuaq – and the region of Nunavik as a whole. His experience gained throughout his working life, Directorships, and education bring a keen eye to the position of Makivvik Treasurer.

He enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling as recreational and subsistence activities.
